Kuripes: Handmade Tribal Kuripe Applicators

Kuripes — also called kuripe pipes — are the small V-shaped self-applicators for taking rapé (hapé) on your own: one end to your mouth, the other to a nostril. (To blow rapé for another person, you’d reach for a tepi instead.) Every kuripe here is handmade by the Yawanawá and Puyanawa tribes of Acre, Brazil, in threaded bamboo and hand-carved cumaru wood. The Huni Kuin, also known as Kaxinawá, are an Indigenous people of the Amazon. They live primarily in the state of Acre in Brazil and the Ucayali region of eastern Peru, along forest rivers and in sustainable, community-based villages.
