About Wild Propolis Rapé (Hapé)
This regular strength rapé from the Yaminawa tribe of Acre, Brazil is built around a rare forest ingredient: wild propolis, gathered from the hives of native Amazonian stingless bees — a resin drawn from the surrounding jungle canopy, carrying a distinctively floral, sweet character. Blended with Tsunu ash (Platycyamus regnellii) and tobacco from tribal lands.
Strictly speaking, what stingless bees make is not propolis at all. It is geoprópolis — tree resin the bees deliberately work together with clay and earth, a material that exists nowhere in European beekeeping and belongs entirely to the Neotropics: roughly a third wax, half resins and balsams, aromatic oils, a trace of pollen — and soil. A hive material built from forest resin and the ground itself, in a blend practitioners reach for when they want grounding.
Honey and wax run all through the record of Brazilian indigenous practice; propolis barely appears in it at all. This is not an ancient staple but a rare, scarcely documented preparation — the Yaminawa’s own working of a material science has hardly touched. Fair warning from the reviews: more than one practitioner found it “stronger than I expected, in the best way.” The quality they return for is the paradox of it: “light and airy like a spring day,” one writes; “a clean, settling quality that brings you straight into your body and out of your head,” another; “potent, sweet and grounding.”

It is not recommended to store hapé in the refrigerator as condensation may form inside the container upon removal.
