About the Yawanawá Tepi Pipe

Experience the craftsmanship and durability of a handmade Yawanawá tepi, a traditional Amazonian tepi pipe used to administer rapé (hapé) during ceremony. Carved from resilient Cumaru wood and created exclusively for Shamanic Supply, each tepi pipe highlights the natural beauty and distinctive grain of the wood, making every piece a one-of-a-kind ceremonial tool.

Designed for serving rapé to others, this rapé applicator pipe offers excellent balance, reach, and control. The elongated form allows the medicine to be delivered with intention and precision, supporting the traditional practice of administering rapé during ritual, ceremony, and sacred prayer.

Honoring the Yawanawá tribe’s traditional artistry, each Cumaru wood tepi rapé pipe is individually carved by hand. The dense hardwood—sourced from the abundant forests of Brazil—is prized for its exceptional strength and beautiful grain. Produced in small batches rather than mass quantities, every tepi serves not only as a functional ceremonial instrument but also as a collectible expression of authentic Amazonian craftsmanship.

What is a Tepi?

A tepi is a traditional ceremonial pipe used by Indigenous tribes of the Amazon rainforest to administer rapé (hapé). Unlike a kuripe, which is designed for self-application, a tepi is used to serve rapé from one person to another during ritual, healing, or ceremonial practice.

Tepis are typically long, hollow pipes crafted from natural materials such as bamboo, bone, or hardwoods. Their extended form allows the facilitator—often a shaman or ceremonial guide—to deliver the medicine with breath, intention, and precision.

Because a tepi is used in service to others, it symbolizes trust, guidance, and the transmission of ancestral knowledge within Amazonian traditions.

What is Rapeh?

Rapeh snuff, also known as rapé or hapeh, is a time-honored sacrament cherished by the tribes of the Amazon for centuries. This handcrafted preparation comprises dried, ground medicinal plants and tree ashes. Traditionally, Rapeh is administered via a unique bone or bamboo pipe, blown directly into the nostrils.

Rapeh's diverse formulations cater to a variety of uses and broadly fall into three categories: spiritual, healing, and fortifying. It is revered for its potent purifying and grounding properties, often employed to dispel negative energy, enhance concentration, and heighten consciousness. It serves as a pivotal component in sacred rituals and ceremonies, facilitating a deeper connection with the spiritual realm, fostering self-awareness, and promoting healing and growth.*
