Sourced directly from the Yawanawá tribe of Brazil, this is our strongest sananga — made from fresh root shavings, for experienced practitioners who know the medicine.

Sananga is applied as a single drop into each eye. There is a brief, intense sting — sharp for a minute or two — and then it clears, often leaving a striking sense of presence, calm and stillness; one customer described how the sharp sting “went into relaxation,” leaving a “general well-being for the rest of the day.” In the Amazon it is worked with to clear panema, the heavy, stagnant energy that dulls a person; hunters traditionally used it to sharpen their perception before the hunt, and today it is most often reached for before meditation, prayer or ceremony.

Sananga is made from the root of the Tabernaemontana shrub, a small tree of the Amazon. Here the fresh root is shaved and steeped in water, giving a strong, direct preparation. Tribe and preparation both shape its strength — which is why our three sanangas, from three tribes, each feel distinct.

Browse all three strengths in our Fresh Sananga Eye Drops collection.

Ingredients

Water, Sananga (fresh root shavings of Tabernaemontana sananho) (BRAZIL)

How to Use Sananga

Shake the bottle well before each use — fresh sananga settles naturally between applications. Remove any contact lenses, wash your hands, and set aside a few quiet, unhurried minutes in a calm space. Tilt your head well back, or lie down, and place a single drop into each eye. Close your eyes and breathe slowly. There is a brief, intense sting — usually sharpest for the first minute or two — that then softens and clears. Rest with your eyes closed and let it pass; allow any tears to fall, and resist the urge to rub. Many people sit quietly for a little while afterwards, settling into the stillness before carrying on with their day.

Storing Your Sananga

Sananga is a fresh botanical preparation, not a shelf-stable extract — keep it refrigerated to preserve its potency. Once opened, use within four months, then replace with a fresh bottle.

Important: False Sananga

Our Sananga is crafted using authentic Tabernaemontana sananho, the traditional plant favored by Indigenous tribes. This ensures the highest quality and effectiveness, distinguishing our product from those made withTabernaemontana undulata, commonly referred to as “false sananga” in Brazil.
