About Murici Rapé (Hapé)
Murici brings warmth to the base of the body — worked with for rootedness, warmth in the lower belly, and the settled confidence that follows. This regular strength blend from the Katukina tribe of Acre, Brazil pairs tobacco from tribal lands with the ash of the Murici tree, burned and sieved to a fine, even powder.
In the Katukina's forest, murici is not one tree but two. The makers work with a lilac-flowered murici and a golden-flowered one — both tall, straight-trunked trees of the terra firme, the high Amazon forest that never floods — and hold them equal in strength. Brazil knows the name murici best from the low savanna tree (Byrsonima sp.) whose golden fruit is one of the north's best-loved wild flavours; the forest muricis are its taller, quieter namesakes. Whichever tree gives the batch, the way is the same: its wood burned to ash, to carry the tobacco.
Murici ash is among the most widely used ashes in the rapé traditions of Acre — valued for clearing what gathers in the lower belly and settling the body’s base. It is the ash the women of the Nukini also build their Xiti around. In the Katukina preparation, practitioners describe Murici as an opening blend for connection: softening fear and constriction, supporting social warmth and the growth of bonds. Hapé snuff can remain potent for years when kept in a cool, dry, and dark location. To maintain its quality, ensure your hapé is tightly sealed and protected from any form of moisture. It is not recommended to store hapé in the refrigerator as condensation may form inside the container upon removal.
